Merry Christmas Eve. A Nigerian Christian farmer who was sentenced to death after killing a Fulani radical in self-defense during an attack on his farm was pardoned on Tuesday, “in commemoration of Christmas and New Year celebrations.” The pardon came amid pressure from a U.S. congressman. 

Nigerian officials also announced that the remaining 130 students and staff abducted from a Catholic school in the country's north have been freed, ending a harrowing month-long captivity and allowing families to reunite just in time for Christmas.
